Kinstillatory Mappings in Light and Dark Matter is hosted, held and curated by choreographer, writer and organizer Emily Johnson and by writer Kai Recollet. Communities are invited to gather as artists articulate our collective futures, our otherwise possibilities. The fire itself is a process, a way to bring us out of the catastrophe of now.
Maria Bauman and angel shanel edwards will dance duet vignettes from MBDance’s upcoming larger performance-ritual-artwork, These are the bodies that have not borne. which will premiere at Snug Harbor this summer. We will follow that with a fireside chat with witness-participants surrounding themes in the work. We ask them to reflect on how we nurture requited and unrequited desires, how our bodies are related to Earth’s body, and how dancing can function as ritual and ceremony.
