The rush to constantly produce has adverse somatic effects on all of us, and because of the United States’ foundational blend of racism and capitalism, those adverse effects are worse for people of color here. As the PBS documentary series Unnatural Causes demonstrated in 2008, health indicators such as blood pressure and infant mortality trend downward in people of color who move to the U.S. from other countries even as we often earn more money here than they did in their countries of origin. People of color born in the U.S. also fare worse, health-wise, than their white counterparts even across economic lines. For these reasons, Maria is particularly invested in offering healthy somatic experiences for caucus groups of people of color. Maria is offering the same activity listed above, specifically for people who are not white. Folks will self-identify for this workshop.
