On Saturday, May 10th, Maria is dancing in Alethea Pace’s between wave and water. The outdoor offering aims to honor the past, engage with the present, and envision a future grounded in justice and liberation. Below, read how creator Alethea Pace describes the work.
“Step into a time-traveling journey where fragments of ancestral memory guide you through layers of history and present-day realities. This immersive experience begins at Joseph Rodman Drake Park, an important site that holds the echoes of those who came before us. From there, we will traverse through Hunts Point, witnessing the collision of past and present as we make our way to Hunts Point Landing.
Throughout this journey, we will co-create a space to honor ancestral legacies and envision liberated futures. The performance will be a communal exploration of memory, identity, and hope, grounded in the rich history of the land we walk upon.” -Alethea Pace
